Flash the GCS Update image to a Flash Drive
The recommended process for updating the Vision1 GCS software requires "flashing" the GCS Update USB image to a USB 2.0 flash drive. Please refer to Flashing the GCS Update image to a Flash Drive prior to following the instructions below. Once this has been created, continue to the instructions in
How to update Vision GCS software to update a Vision1 GCS.
To flash the GCS Update USB image to a USB stick you will first need to download the BalenaEtcher program for Windows/MacOS/Linux. For Windows, we suggest you download the portable edition so no installation is required.
Required prior to starting:
- BalenaEtcher for Windows (Portable)
- BalenaEtcher for links to all other platforms
- A USB 2.0 Flash Drive that can use a USB C port
- You will also need to download the current Vision1 GCS "usb-update*.img file from the Vantage Robotics software downloads page
The Flash tool is easy to use tool with three simple steps after you launch the app.
1. Select "Flash from file"
1b. Select the usb-gcs-update*.img file to flash and open
1c. The image is not bootable so the warning can be ignored. Click Continue.
2. Select the USB drive to flash. The USB partition image is 1GB. As long as the USB device is at least 1GB, BalenaEtcher will automatically create single partition to fill the device size.
3. Now ready to flash
3b. The flash process will create the Linux EXT4 partition and write the partition image to the USB device. This is followed by a verification scan of the write operation.
Once the partition image is flashed and verified you will see the screen above. You now can remove the USB drive. Start the GCS updater by plugging the USB stick into USB hub with USB-C connector into GCS after it has powered up and QGC is running. The updater has an autorun script that will prompt the user to proceed after the USB device is automatically mounted.
